Softball Recap: Sandia Has No Trouble Against Santa Fe

Sandia won the last time they faced Santa Fe and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Matadors were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Demons. The result was nothing new for the Matadors, who have now won six contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Liliana Villanueva was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Villanueva was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Steph Brooks was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Duran, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Sandia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Fe only posted an OBP of .286.

The victory got Sandia back to even at 8-8. As for Santa Fe, they dropped their record down to 7-10 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Sandia will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Demons: the pair will be back at it again later today.
