Softball Game Preview: River View Black Bears vs. Meadowbrook Colts

The River View Black Bears will head out to challenge the Meadowbrook Colts at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. River View has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

River View is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Tri-Valley, falling 20-4.

Joann Thompson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-2. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Sam Mizer was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Meadowbrook). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Coshocton an 18-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Colts might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.

Natalee Norman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Norman was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Meadowbrook got a massive performance out of Addy Wiggins, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Sommer Ginn, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

The win made it two in a row for Meadowbrook and bumps their season record up to 10-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for River View, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.

River View suffered a grim 11-4 defeat to Meadowbrook when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Black Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
