Basketball Recap: Eight Straight Home Wins for Shawnee

Shawnee had won seven straight home games dating back to last season and Beckett Bertke did his part to make it eight on Friday. The Shawnee Indians really took it to the Elida Bulldogs for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-31 victory thanks in part to Bertke, who shot 4-for-7 from long range and dropped a double-double on 27 points and 13 boards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 8.2 rebounds per game.

The team also got some help courtesy of Jagger Hutchins, who posted 11 points and three blocks. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.

Shawnee's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Elida, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shawnee and Upper Scioto Valley will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. One thing working in Shawnee's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Elida, they will be playing at home against Allen East at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
