Baseball Game Preview: Oil City Oilers vs. Rocky Grove Orioles

The Oil City Oilers will head out to face off against the Rocky Grove Orioles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rocky Grove took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Oil City, who comes in off a win.

Oil City barely beat Franklin the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Oilers put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 7-1 win on Wednesday. That looming 7-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Oilers yet this season.

Will McMahon made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 14 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

McMahon wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Casey Rybak, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Rybak has launched this season.

Meanwhile, Rocky Grove unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They came up short against Maplewood, falling 12-1. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Orioles couldn't push the score so high this time.

Oil City's record is now 6-11. As for Rocky Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.

Oil City beat Rocky Grove 6-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2016. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Oilers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
