Baseball Recap: Auburndale Takes a Loss

Auburndale was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against the Aubrey Rogers Patriots, falling 10-3.

Auburndale had to settle for second despite strong performances on the mound from Caiden Whittenton and Connor Stricklen Whittenton tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Stricklen pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Whittenton has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Justin Monroe was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Brittan Zealley, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Auburndale's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Aubrey Rogers, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Auburndale will take on Lake Wales at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Aubrey Rogers, they will venture away from home to take on Cornerstone Charter Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Aubrey Rogers knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Cornerstone Charter Academy likes a good challenge.
