Basketball Recap: Dorman Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with James F. Byrnes

On Friday, Dorman faced James F. Byrnes in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Dorman Cavaliers fell just short of the James F. Byrnes Rebels by a score of 66-63. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (60), the Cavaliers still had to take the loss.

Dorman's loss came despite strong showings from Makayla Moore and Morgan White. Moore posted 24 points in addition to five assists and four steals, while White went 9 of 13 on her way to 18 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. White's evening made it 11 games in a row in which she has scored at least 17 points. Rihanna Wallace was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

Leading James F. Byrnes to victory were Ashlyn Evans and Jaida Johnson. Evans almost dropped a triple-double on 24 points, nine boards, and 11 steals, while Johnson dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 13 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellison Silver, who earned 14 points.

Dorman's defeat dropped their record down to 15-7. As for James F. Byrnes, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Coming up, Dorman will head out to take on Eastside at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for James F. Byrnes, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Boiling Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
