Mater Dei starts the year at No. 1 and in total 12 different states are represented along with Washington D.C. in the initial release of our preseason Top 25 high school football rankings.

Red Grange, Jim Brown, Dick Butkus and Dan Marino. Joe Montana, Tony Dorsett, Charles Woodson and Orlando Pace. The Great Lakes region has cultivated a bumper crop of prep talent that's gone on to rank among the greatest players in football history.

These aren't the only big-time high school talents along the North Coast, but below are 50 names that will command headlines and attention in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin...and beyond.

Julian Fleming, sr., WR, Southern Columbia Area (Catawissa, Pa.)
The 2020 Ohio State commit had 1,500 yards receiving and 22 touchdowns in 2018 and was named the Pennsylvania Gatorade Football Player of the Year as a junior. Heads into season as a first team MaxPreps Preseason All-American. Considered one of country’s Top 10 high school players (overall) and WRs by MaxPreps. Ranked as the No. 3 overall senior prospect in the country and the No. 1 ranked receiver prospect according to 247Sports.

Paris Johnson Jr., sr., OL, Princeton (Cincinnati)
After dominating defensive lines at St. Xavier (Cincinnati) the last few years, he finishes his high school career at Princeton. Expect the Ohio State commit to show why he's the top rated tackle in the Class of 2020 and the No. 7 overall prospect regardless of position. First team MaxPreps Preseason All-American.

Kyle McCord, jr., QB, St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia)
The 2021 Ohio State commit broke his school’s single-season record after throwing for over 2,800 yards as a sophomore and helped the Philadelphia power to a No. 8 rank to start the year. First team MaxPreps Preseason Junior All-American is considered one of country’s Top 10 high school QBs by MaxPreps. No. 4 overall junior prospect in Pennsylvania and the No. 5 ranked pro-style quarterback prospect nationally by 247Sports.

Justin Rogers, sr., OL/DL, Oak Park (Mich.)
The 2020 Kentucky commit dominates whether it's on the defensive or offensive line. First team MaxPreps Preseason All-American. Ranked the No. 1 overall senior prospect in Michigan by 247sports and the No. 3 defensive tackle prospect nationally.

Cole Brevard, sr. DL, Carmel (Ind.)
Penn State commit is ranked the No. 1 senior prospect in Indiana and the No. 13 ranked defensive tackle prospect nationally.

Cameron Martinez, sr. QB, Muskegon (Mich.)
The 2020 Ohio State commit broke the single-season school-rushing record with 2,526 yards and 38 touchdowns. He also threw for nearly 700 yards and 12 more scores. Second team MaxPreps Preseason All-American. Ranked the No. 8 senior prospect in Michigan and the No. 14 ranked athlete prospect nationally.



J.J. McCarthy, jr., QB, Nazareth Academy (LaGrange Park, Ill.)
Michigan commit led Roadrunners to a 7A state title after throwing for nearly 3,500 yards and 37 touchdowns. Second team MaxPreps Preseason Junior All-American. No. 1 overall junior prospect in Illinois and the No. 3 ranked pro-style quarterback prospect nationally by 247Sports.

Seven McGee, jr., RB, East (Rochester, N.Y.)
Oregon commit is the No. 1 ranked junior prospect in New York according to 2347Sports. First team MaxPreps Preseason Junior All-American.

Charlie Spegal, sr., RB, New Palestine (Ind.)
One of the best single seasons anyone has ever seen last year as he broke the Indiana state record scoring 70 touchdowns (68 rushing and two receiving). It is the third most all-time falling two short of tying Kazmeir Allen's national record set in 2017. Spegal finished the season with 3,356 yards rushing and helped lead New Palestine to a 14-0 record, which was capped it off by rushing for 226 yards and two touchdowns in the 5A state championship game against Decatur Central (Indianapolis). Second team MaxPreps Junior All-American last year.

Marvin Harrison Jr., jr., WR, St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia)
First team MaxPreps Preseason Junior All-American. He and McCord will be one of the best quarterback/wide receiver duos in high school football. The son of an NFL Hall of Famer already has 17 FBS offers. Caught 50 passes for 725 yards and eight touchdowns last year. No. 3 overall junior prospect in Pennsylvania and the No. 8 ranked receiver prospect nationally by 247Sports.

Braiden McGregor, sr., DE, Port Huron Northern (Mich.)
Michigan recruit registered 99 tackles eight sacks and two interceptions last season. Ranked No. 2 overall senior prospect in Michigan by 247Sports and No. 4 strong-side defensive end prospect nationally according to 247sports.com.

Marquael Parks, jr., RB, Orrville (Ohio)
First team MaxPreps Preseason Junior All-American rushed for nearly 3,000 yards and had 56 total touchdowns while leading the Red Riders to a state title as a sophomore.

Carson Steele, jr., RB, Center Grove (Greenwood, Ind.)
Has been productive since his freshman season. Answered his 1,700 yard freshman campaign with nearly 2,300 yards rushing as a sophomore. Second team MaxPreps Preseason Junior All-American.



Jack Sawyer, jr., DE, Pickerington North (Pickerington, Ohio)
Ohio State commit is the nation's No. 1 overall junior prospect regardless of position. Second team MaxPreps Preseason Junior All-American.

Michael Carmody, sr., OL, Mars (Pa.)
Notre Dame commit ranked as the No. 2 overall senior prospect in Pennsylvania and the No. 16 ranked tackle prospect nationally.


Brady Allen, soph., QB, Gibson Southern (Fort Branch, Ind.)
Second team MaxPreps Preseason Sophomore All-American. Showed out during his freshman season throwing for nearly 2,500 yards and 29 touchdowns. The 6-5 gunslinger has offers from Virginia Tech, Indiana, Purdue and Cincinnati.

Jack Olsen, sr., K, Wheaton-Warrenville South (Wheaton, Ill.)
Was tied for the most field goals made during his junior season with 22. The 2020 Michigan State commit set a new state record making eight field goals in one game. Second team MaxPreps Preseason All-American.

Reid Carrico, jr. LB, Ironton (Ohio)
Ranked No. 3 overall junior prospect in Ohio and the No. 3 ranked inside linebacker prospect nationally by 247Sports. Holds 32 offers including Ohio State, Clemson, Alabama, Notre Dame and Oklahoma.



Enai White, soph., TE, Imhotep Charter (Philadelphia)
First team MaxPreps Preseason Sophomore All-American. Even though defensive end might be his position in college, White is a big-time playmaker on offense on Friday nights. His 6-foot, 5-inch, 225-pound frame makes him one of the most dangerous red zone threats in the nation.

Kenny Talley, soph., ATH, Northeast (Philadelphia)
Second team MaxPreps Preseason Sophomore All-American. Penn State, Florida and Virginia Tech are just some of the notable schools to offer Talley so far. Recorded six sacks and forced five fumbles as a freshman and expect an even bigger role in 2019.

Derrick Davis Jr., jr., ATH, Gateway (Monroeville, Pa.)
Accounted for 2,000 yards offense and 27 touchdowns to go with four sacks, 13 tackles for loss and three interceptions in 2018. Second team MaxPreps Preseason Junior All-American. No. 2 overall junior prospect in Pennsylvania and the No. 2 ranked safety prospect nationally by 247Sports. Holds 18 offers including Ohio State, Alabama, Penn State and Notre Dame.

Maliq Carr, sr., TE, Oak Park (Mich.)
No. 4 overall senior prospect in Michigan and the No. 5 ranked tight end prospect nationally. Holds 29 offers including Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Georgia, LSU, Auburn and Texas A&M.

Tirek Murphy, sr., RB, Christ the King (Middle Village, N.Y.)
Purdue commit is ranked as the No. 1 overall senior prospect in New York and the No. 19 ranked running back prospect nationally.

Evan Prater, sr., QB, Wyoming (Cincinnati)
Cincinnati commit is the highest rated prospect in program history. He’s ranked as the No. 2 overall senior prospect in Ohio and the No. 10 ranked dual threat quarterback prospect nationally by 247 Sports. Threw for 1,686 yards and 20 touchdowns and ran for 1,133 yards and 21 touchdowns last season en route to leading Wyoming to an undefeated season and OHSAA Division IV state title.

A.J. Henning, sr. WR, Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort, Ill.)

Kentucky commit ranked No. 7 overall prospect in Ohio and ninth best all-purpose back prospect nationally by 247sports. Ran for 1,754 yards and 25 touchdowns and had 416 yards and five touchdowns receiving last season. Set a school record with six touchdowns in a win over Centerville.
