Softball Recap: Holcomb Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Holcomb had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They came up short against the South Pemiscot Bulldogs on Monday, falling 13-3. The Hornets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Holcomb saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Gurley, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

The win (which was South Pemiscot's third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.

Coming up, Holcomb will welcome Portageville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Holcomb's pitchers better be ready for this one: Portageville has averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season. As for South Pemiscot, they will head out on the road to face off against Campbell at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
