Baseball Recap: Watauga's Run of Four Straight Wins Now Over

It was a good run, but Watauga unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the South Caldwell Spartans by a score of 7-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 back in March.

Watauga got a good showing from Daniel Jones, who pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Jones has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Dillon Zaragoza and Chase Gillin stepped up to the plate in a big way. Zaragoza scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Gillin went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Greene, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Watauga now has a losing record of 7-8. As for South Caldwell, their win bumped their record up to 14-1.

Coming up, Watauga will square off against Weddington at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Pioneers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for South Caldwell, they will host Freedom at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in the Spartans' favor as the team sits on seven straight wins at home while the Patriots have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
