Softball Game Preview: Caldwell Chiefs vs. Ridge Red Devil

The Caldwell Chiefs will challenge the Ridge Red Devil at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ridge took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Caldwell, who comes in off a win.

Caldwell was handed a nine-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They skirted past Gill St. Bernard's 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Chiefs have posted since April 28th.

The team relied heavily on Alyssa Favata, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

Caldwell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gill St. Bernard's only posted a batting average of .250.

Meanwhile, Ridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 3-2 to Hunterdon Central, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Caldwell's win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.
