Basketball Recap: West Valley Takes a Loss

West Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. The contest between them and the Elsinore Tigers didn't end well, with the West Valley Mustangs falling 68-51. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 93-61 on January 10th.

Elsinore's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ladarian Watkins led the charge by going 10 of 15 en route to 20 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Watkins a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Brandon Boatman, who posted 15 points in addition to seven boards and five steals.

West Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Elsinore, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 16-9 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Valley has already played their next game (against Tahquitz), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Elsinore will take on Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Elsinore knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 contests -- so hopefully Liberty likes a good challenge.
