Baseball Game Preview: Lakes Lancers vs. Capital Cougars

The Lakes Lancers will head out to take on the Capital Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Lakes will be strutting in after a win while Capital will be coming in after a defeat.

Lakes' pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Mount Tahoma 11-0. The game marked the Lancers' most dominant victory of the season.

Ivan Gonzalez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on James Kennedy, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aaron Miller, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Lakes always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Capital has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 4.05 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Wednesday. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bellarmine Prep. The Cougars just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Lakes' win ended a ten-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-17. As for Capital, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-6.

Lakes suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Capital when the teams last played back in March. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
