Jacob Kozub and Joey Villarreal made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Kozub struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Villarreal struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Westville is 2-1 when Villarreal allows two or fewer hits, but 2-3 otherwise. At bat, Kozub got on base in three of his six plate appearances with four runs, while Villarreal got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Villarreal is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
In other batting news, Westville got a massive performance out of Jackson Pilarski, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, two RBI, and one double. Pilarski has become a key player for the Blackhawks: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carter Glass, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Westville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Boone Grove entered their tilt with Kouts on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Mustangs & Fillies. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolves have posted since May 15, 2024.
The victory got Westville back to even at 4-4. As for Boone Grove, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
