Mt. Vernon had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They were the clear victor by a 53-31 margin over the Richmond Red Devils on Friday. The victory was nothing new for the Marauders as they're now sitting on four straight.
Mt. Vernon was led to victory by Zoey Wood and Gabby Thomas. Wood posted 20 points and eight assists, while Thomas went 8 of 13 to rack up 21 points and five boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which Wood has scored at least a third of Mt. Vernon's points. Delani Williams was another key player, putting up seven points.
They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Mt. Vernon was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Richmond only racked up four assists.
Loss or not, Richmond got some senior leadership from Maren Bolser and Amyannah Tucker. Bolser earned nine points and five rebounds, while Tucker scored 13 points and five boards.
Mt. Vernon's record now sits at 18-6. As for Richmond, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-12.
Mt. Vernon has already played their next contest, a 59-21 loss against Pendleton Heights on the 8th. Richmond does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
