Basketball Recap: North Duplin Snags Tenth Win in Last 11 Games

If Lakewood wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played North Duplin, they should've done a better job of containing Tateyawna Faison. The North Duplin Rebels had just enough and edged the Lakewood Leopards out 49-47 thanks in part to Faison, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 boards. Faison is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.

Despite the loss, Lakewood saw an underclassman step up: freshman Areona McKoy dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 boards. That was a full 53.2% of Lakewood's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Trinity Bell was another key player, putting up two points and three steals.

North Duplin is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.6 points per game. As for Lakewood, their defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-2.

North Duplin will square off against Union at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. North Duplin is facing Union at the right time seeing as Union is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Lakewood, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 54-44 win against Neuse Charter on the 5th.
