Baseball Recap: Lamar Wins Going Away Against St. Mary's

Lamar's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the St. Mary's Pirates. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Thunder also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Cael Buxton made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Buxton was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Braxen Shelton was a standout: he scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Alex Santos was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Lamar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Mary's only posted an OBP of .333.

Lamar now has a winning record of 2-1. As for St. Mary's, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lamar will challenge Fort Morgan at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for St. Mary's, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Rye at 5:30 p.m. on April 1.
