Baseball Recap: Polk County Gets the Win

Polk County took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against McMinn Central, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildcats skirted past the Chargers 4-3. The win was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Kamren Minnaert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits. He has become a key player for Polk County: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 0-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Hunter Geren was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Griffin Hamby, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Polk County's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 4-9. As for McMinn Central, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.

Looking ahead, McMinn Central will take on Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Polk County will be paying especially close attention to the Chargers' matchup: after the Chargers face off against the Eagles, they'll take on Polk County again at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
