Recap: Sebastian River Sharks vs. Somerset College Prep Academy Spartans
The Sebastian River Sharks waltzed into their matchup Thursday with four straight wins but they left with five. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Somerset College Prep Academy 52-50. That's another feather in the cap for Sebastian River, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sebastian River to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andrew Simpson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. The game was Simpson's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amarion Smith, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds.
Somerset College Prep Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Terrance Dickson, who scored 13 points along with three steals. Dickson is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Alex Laurent was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Somerset College Prep Academy were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sebastian River only pulled down 17 offensive rebounds.
Sebastian River pushed their record up to 5-1 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Somerset College Prep Academy, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sebastian River won't have much time to rest: their next match is against St. Edward's at 7:00 p.m. on December 15th. St. Edward's will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 657th, while Sebastian River is ranked 283rd). Somerset College Prep Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lincoln Park Academy at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th. Lincoln Park Academy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
