Baseball Recap: Mountain View Picks Up Second Consecutive Victory

Mountain View lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Santa Clara, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's matchup. The Spartans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bruins a 6-0 shutout on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.

Not much got past Brennan Dooley, who gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Santa Clara off the board. Dooley has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Zander Yocum was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. He has become a key player for Mountain View: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 3-17 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ethan Frehner, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Mountain View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 6-17. As for Santa Clara, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-18.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Mountain View will square off against Homestead at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Santa Clara, they will take on Palo Alto at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bruins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
