Basketball Recap: Highland Prep Takes a Loss

Highland Prep was the 49-41 winner over Chino Valley when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Highland Prep Honey Badgers were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 59-58 to the Chino Valley Cougars.

Highland Prep's loss came despite strong showings from Paxton Clarke and Terrance Byrd. Clarke went 7 of 14 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds, while Byrd dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. Byrd is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Quanell Watkins, who posted eight points.

Highland Prep's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Chino Valley, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing ALA - West Foothills the next time they take the court. Highland Prep will head out to face ALA - West Foothills at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Chino Valley will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
