Recap: Huntingtown Hurricanes vs. St. Charles

After flying high against the La Plata Warriors last Friday, the Huntingtown Hurricanes came back down to earth. Huntingtown's rough 56-34 loss to St. Charles on Wednesday might stick with them for a while. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Huntingtown in their matchups with St. Charles: they've now lost four in a row.

Huntingtown's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eva Powell, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 rebounds. Powell is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sofia Hoetzlein-sirman, who scored six points along with two steals.

St. Charles' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jadyn Forbes, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds. It was the first time this season that Forbes scored 15 or more points. McKenzie Thomas was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five steals.

Huntingtown's loss dropped their record down to 12-7. As for St. Charles, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.

Huntingtown will look to defend their home court on Friday against North Point at 6:30 p.m. Huntingtown is on a four-game streak of home wins, North Point a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for St. Charles, they will head out on the road to challenge Patuxent at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Patuxent will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings (they are ranked 255th, while St. Charles is ranked 69th).
