Basketball Preview: Wagener-Salley War Eagles vs. North Eagles
The Wagener-Salley War Eagles will be playing at home against the North Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Wagener-Salley has struggled recently with 18 losses in a row, while the Eagles will arrive with 11 straight wins.
Wagener-Salley pushed their score all the way to 64 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 77-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of Blackville-Hilda. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (55), Wagener-Salley still had to take the loss.
Meanwhile, North stacked a tenth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. Everything went their way against Ridge Spring-Monetta as North made off with a 68-45 win. The score was close at the half, but North pulled away in the second half with 40 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North to victory, but perhaps none more so than Amaveon Calloway, who scored 14 points along with five assists and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Stetson Stacks, who scored 21 points along with six steals.
Wagener-Salley dropped their record down to 0-17 with that defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for North, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-3 record this season.
Wagener-Salley took a serious blow against the Eagles when the teams last played last Thursday, falling 93-46. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Stacks, who scored 23 points along with six rebounds and six steals.
