Softball Recap: Decatur Central Victorious

Decatur Central was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Greenwood on Tuesday. The Hawks never let the Woodmen get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The Hawks not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 17, 2024 (when they won 17-3).

Kenzie Cummings was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashyr Lawson, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Mak Wilkerson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Decatur Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .516. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

The win got Decatur Central back to even at 4-4. As for Greenwood, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Decatur Central will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Woodmen: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
