Baseball Recap: Alden Finds Playoff Glory Versus Griffith Institute

With a playoff win on the line, Alden rose to the challenge on Saturday. They came out on top against the Griffith Institute Griffins by a score of 12-8. This was payback for the Bulldogs, who suffered a 4-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Tanner Lund made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off five hits. Lund was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Kalen Czelusta was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyler Lucas, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles.

Alden hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.

Alden has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Griffith Institute, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-7.

Alden wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 10-6 defeat against Kennedy on the 27th. Griffith Institute does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
