Basketball Recap: Ashley Find Success

Ashley won the last time they faced Topsail and things went their way on Wednesday too. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, the Ashley Screaming Eagle made off with a 52-51 victory over the Topsail Pirates. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Screaming Eagle.

Ashley had a senior duo take command as Nate Jarrell posted 22 points and Quinn Bentley earned 15 points. Bentley's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Kegley, who scored five points and five rebounds.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rhett Britt, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. Britt has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Duron Vaughn was another key player, putting up eight points and 11 boards.

Ashley's record is now 8-10. As for Topsail, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10.

Ashley will be playing at home against New Hanover at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. New Hanover will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Ashley surely won't give up without a fight. As for Topsail, they will head out to take on West Brunswick at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Topsail is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.4 points per game this season.
