Wheeling dropped down to 10-7 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell 2-0 to the Johnsburg Skyhawks. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Skyhawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

As for Johnsburg, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. While they didn't have the best season last year (they finished 14-23), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Johnsburg found their leader in freshman Maddie Mays, who had four aces and three digs. Those four aces set a new season-high mark for Mays.

Wheeling has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 win against Marengo on the 20th. As for Johnsburg, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 victory against Waukegan on the 20th.
