Softball Recap: Simi Valley's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Simi Valley dropped their record down to 16-8-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Moorpark Musketeers by a score of 5-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Musketeers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-8 back in April.

Parker Ong spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Simi Valley saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leah Ortega-Vasquez, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

As for Moorpark, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Winning may never get old, but they sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

On Moorpark's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kiley Finnerty gave up just two earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.

At the plate, Nathalie Hernandez was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Sydney Burckhard, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Coincidentally, Simi Valley and Moorpark will both be playing Royal the next time they take the field. The Pioneers will host the Highlanders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Musketeers will head out to face them at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
