Basketball Recap: Duron Vaughn's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Topsail over West Brunswick

Topsail lost against West Brunswick back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Topsail Pirates fell 62-52 to the West Brunswick Trojans. The Pirates just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row.

Topsail lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Duron Vaughn, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Elijah Hebron, who went 7 for 15 en route to 19 points.

Even though they lost, Topsail smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive games.

West Brunswick was led to victory by Matthew McKenney and K'Veon Griffin. McKenney went 7 of 15 on his way to 21 points in addition to six boards and six steals, while Griffin went 5 for 9 en route to 17 points and seven rebounds. The matchup was Griffin's third in a row with at least ten points. Johnathan Daniels was another key player, putting up five points and five steals.

Topsail's record is now 7-11. As for West Brunswick, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Topsail will host Hoggard at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hoggard will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Topsail surely won't give up without a fight. As for West Brunswick, they will welcome Ashley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Brunswick is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.4 points per game this season.
