Baseball Recap: Canton Comes Up Short

Canton fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Foxborough on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 6-5. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Teddy Shuman put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has become a key player for Canton: the team is 5-1-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-6 otherwise. Shuman was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one run and one double.

Shuman wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Gillis, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Gillis is becoming a predictor of Canton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 5-6-1 when he doesn't).

Canton's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7-1. As for Foxborough, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-5.
