Basketball Recap: Samson Find Success

It was a proper cat-fight when Samson faced off against Houston County on Saturday. The Samson Tigers escaped with a win against the Houston County Lions by the margin of a single free throw, 66-65. With that victory, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 50.8 points per game.

Samson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brodi Mock led the charge by going 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben McKenzie, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards.

Samson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 33 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Samson's win bumped their record up to 6-14. As for Houston County, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-16.

Samson and Houston County could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings. Samson will challenge Cottonwood at 6:00 p.m. on Monday down 255 places (428 vs. 173). Meanwhile, Houston County (ranked 394th) will meet Providence Christian (ranked 69th) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
