Basketball Recap: Cape Fear Academy Hurricanes vs. Laney Buccaneers
Cape Fear Academy saw some tournament action on Friday. Their2024 ended with a 66-48 loss against the Laney Buccaneers. The Hurricanes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Cape Fear Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kareem Anderson went 7 for 14 on his way to 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Gibson, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 10 points and five rebounds.
Alan Studebaker was a one-man wrecking crew for Laney as he went 11 of 12 en route to 24 points and six rebounds. Those 24 points gave Studebaker a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Colin Lamb, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 14 points in addition to six boards and five assists.
Cape Fear Academy's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Laney, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
Cape Fear Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 83-70 defeat against Croatan on the 28th. As for Laney, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 70-68 win against South Mecklenburg on the 28th.
