Basketball Recap: Genoa-Hugo/Karval Falls Despite Big Games from Amy James and Rylee Corn

Genoa-Hugo/Karval was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 34-28 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hi-Plains Patriots. The Pirates were probably out for revenge after losing 47-38 to them when the teams met back in December of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Genoa-Hugo/Karval had strong showings from Rylee Corn, who posted 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, and Amy James, who put up five points and five steals. The dominant performance gave Corn a new career-high in steals.

Even though they lost, Genoa-Hugo/Karval smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Hi-Plains, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Genoa-Hugo/Karval will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Calhan at 5:00 p.m. on January 11th. After both having extra time off, Hi-Plains and Lone Star will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 5:00 p.m. on January 10th.
