Ei'Lani Herrera was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and nine unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Analiya Feliciano was incredible, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with six stolen bases, six runs, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Asia Jackson was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs.
Hammond Morton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .654. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Mishawaka Marian didn't have quite enough to beat New Prairie on Thursday and fell 2-1. The Knights haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Mishawaka Marian saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Annie Verslype, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Hammond Morton pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.6 runs over those games. As for Mishawaka Marian, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.
Mishawaka Marian's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hammond Morton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .401. It's a different story for Mishawaka Marian, though, as they've only averaged .191. Will they be able to contain Hammond Morton's hitters?
Hammond Morton was able to grind out a solid victory over Mishawaka Marian in their previous matchup last Tuesday, winning 7-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Governors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
