Basketball Recap: Northwest Lions vs. Hillsboro Hawks

Northwest lost against Hillsboro back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Lions received a blow as they fell 72-55 to the Hawks. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hillsboro was led to victory by Brendan Poyner and Cooper McGrath. Poyner went 11-for-21 to rack up 28 points and three steals, while McGrath shot 52% from the field en route to 25 points and five rebounds. Poyner is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Hicks, who posted six points in addition to 12 boards and three blocks.

Northwest now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Hillsboro, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Coming up, Northwest will head out on the road to challenge Hazelwood West at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 64 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Hillsboro, they will take on Lebanon in a tournament on Saturday.
