Basketball Recap: Pioneer Victorious

Pioneer won the last time they faced Sharyland and things went their way on Friday too. The Pioneer Diamondbacks pulled ahead with a 58-57 photo finish over the Sharyland Rattlers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Diamondbacks.

Muhamed Shaath was his usual excellent self, going 13 of 14 on his way to 33 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Maldonado, who posted five points along with six assists and six boards.

Pioneer's victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-12. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Sharyland, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-13.

Pioneer and Sharyland could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Pioneer (ranked 910th) will meet Rowe (ranked 184th) at 1:30 p.m. on December 28th. Meanwhile, Sharyland (ranked 985th) will meet Vela (ranked 139th) at 1:30 p.m. on December 28th.
