Recap: Woodlake Tigers vs. Laton Mustangs
The Woodlake Tigers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 11th straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 42-41 to Laton. Woodlake lost against Laton in their previous head to head last Thursday, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 27-26 score last time.
Woodlake's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hugo Cruz, who scored 21 points. The match was Cruz's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Rios, who scored 12 points.
Laton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Yann Jimenez led the charge by scoring 13 points. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Jaythan Garcia, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Woodlake's loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-14. As for Laton, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 3-11 record this season.
Woodlake will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Granite Hills at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. As for Laton, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Riverdale Christian at 6:00 p.m.
