Softball Recap: Tuscola Triumphs

The third road game was the charm for Tuscola, as they earned their first away win of the season. They put the hurt on the Cerro Gordo/Bement Broncos with a sharp 13-3 victory on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Broncos: they've now won five in a row.

Kinzie Cleland made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Brynlee Ring and Ava Boyer did most of the damage at the plate: Ring went 3-for-5 with six RBI, two stolen bases, and one run, while Boyer went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That run marked the first that Ring scored this season. Another player making a difference was Allison Pettry, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Tuscola kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Tuscola's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Cerro Gordo/Bement, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Looking ahead, Tuscola will welcome Marshall at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Tuscola will need to watch out since Marshall has now posted at least ten runs in their last four matches. As for Cerro Gordo/Bement, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hartsburg-Emden at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
