Basketball Recap: Hilltop Takes a Loss

Hilltop played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 68-41 defeat at the hands of the Chula Vista Spartans. The loss continues a trend for the Lancers in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the loss, Hilltop still got an impressive performance from Adrian Alvarez, who went 5 of 7 to rack up 12 points and four steals. Alvarez has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Grant, who posted four points and three steals.

Chula Vista's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elijah Gillespie, who scored 22 points. Giovanni Contreras was another key player, putting up 22 points.

Hilltop's defeat dropped their record down to 8-16. As for Chula Vista, they pushed their record up to 19-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hilltop will venture away from home to challenge Castle Park at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hilltop is facing Castle Park at the right time seeing as Castle Park is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Chula Vista, they will head out to square off against Sweetwater at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
