Basketball Game Preview: De Beque Dragons vs. Lone Star Longhorns

The De Beque Dragons will challenge the Lone Star Longhorns at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

De Beque will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Meeker, who they had gone 0-5 against in their five prior meetings. De Beque walked away with a 58-47 victory over Meeker on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Dragons.

De Beque's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Vines, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 15 boards. Vines is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last six games she's played. Allyson Sandidge was another key player, shooting 40% from the field to rack up 21 points and six assists.

De Beque smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 19 consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Lone Star entered their tilt with Weldon Valley on Saturday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They enjoyed a cozy 52-34 victory over the Warriors.

De Beque better focus on containing Jade Kuntz and Peytyn Kuntz as the pair were huge in Lone Star's win. Jade dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds, while Peytyn went 7-for-13 on her way to 16 points and four steals. What's more, Peytyn posted four assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Cochran, who had four points and eight boards.

De Beque's win bumped their record up to 16-6. As for Lone Star, their victory bumped their record up to 12-10.
