Smith, the nation's No. 18 recruit and No. 2 defensive back chose the Crimson Tide over fellow finalist and rival Auburn, from a pool of dozens of offers.

With the addition of Smith, Alabama jumps to No. 5 in the team recruiting rankings, giving it the second-strongest class in the SEC behind only Florida.

Michigan, with five Top 100 recruits, retains its hold on the No. 1 spot in the rankings.

Smith joins an already-impressive recruiting class that features standout defenders Eddie Williams, Dillon Lee and Reggie Ragland.

Earlier today, Smith was named a 2011 Preseason All-American, joining Ragland as the only Alabama commits to receive such honors.
