Softball Recap: Cumberland Comes Up Short

Cumberland extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-12 in the process. They lost 12-3 to the Westerly Bulldogs. The Clippers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Westerly, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-7. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by nine runs or more this season.

For Westerly's part, the team relied heavily on Addison Poole, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Poole is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Mazzarese, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Coming up, Cumberland will challenge Cranston West at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Clippers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Westerly, they will square off against Ponaganset at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
