Van Nuys is 0-10 against Sylmar since April of 2019 but things could change on Friday. Angelina Volpe was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. EMILY VILLARREAL was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Sylmar came tearing into Wednesday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Hunters as they made off with a 17-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won eight contests by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Analee Morales made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Morales was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and three RBI.
In other batting news, Sylmar got a massive performance out of Julia Delcid, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three RBI. The dominant performance also gave Delcid a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Maya Salceda, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.
Sylmar was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in seven consecutive matches.
Sylmar pushed their record up to 9-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Van Nuys, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Van Nuys hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like Sylmar struggles in that department as they've averaged .545. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
