Basketball Recap: Nick Mapp Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Horizon Christian

KIPP Legacy won the last time they faced Horizon Christian and things went their way on Tuesday too. The KIPP Legacy Lions came out on top against Horizon Christian by a score of 71-59. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead KIPP Legacy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nick Mapp, who went 9 of 15 en route to 18 points and seven steals. The contest was Mapp's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Shalon Robinson was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten boards.

KIPP Legacy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Several Horizon Christian players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lawrence Long, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 17 points in addition to six assists and six rebounds. That's the most assists Long has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Darryl Orr, who went 5 of 11 en route to 14 points and five assists.

KIPP Legacy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.3 points per game. As for Horizon Christian, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-8.

KIPP Legacy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 76-60 victory against Indianapolis HomeSchool Wildcats on the 31st. As for Horizon Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 73-45 win against Northpoint HomeSchool on the 31st.
