Baseball Game Preview: Taravella Trojans vs. Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks

The Taravella Trojans will take on the Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks in a tournament on Tuesday.

Taravella is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering ABF Academy Homestead just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They came up short against the Bandits, falling 16-6.

Tyler Morgan and Sebastian Mayfield stepped up to the plate in a big way. Morgan scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Mayfield went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. JC Martinez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Even though they lost, Taravella was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Archbishop McCarthy won against Coral Springs on Friday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. Everything went Archbishop McCarthy's way against St. John Paul II Academy as Archbishop McCarthy made off with a 10-1 win. With that victory, the Mavericks brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

The team relied heavily on Juan Cerra, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Archbishop McCarthy is undefeated when Cerra posts two or more runs, but 1-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was German Ferreira, who went 2-for-4 with one home run.

Taravella's defeat dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Archbishop McCarthy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season.

Taravella was able to grind out a solid win over Archbishop McCarthy in their previous matchup back in March of 2022, winning 8-4. Will Taravella repeat their success, or does Archbishop McCarthy has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
