Baseball Game Preview: Ashwaubenon Jaguars vs. Notre Dame Academy Tritons

Ashwaubenon and Notre Dame Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Jaguars will head out on the road to face off against the Tritons at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Ashwaubenon's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three matches, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Ashwaubenon took a 13-run loss the last time they faced off against Manitowoc Lincoln, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Jaguars' pitcher stepped up to hand the Ships a 1-0 shutout on Tuesday.

The result came thanks to Thomas Pfeifer's shutout, as he gave up just three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ashwaubenon is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Ashwaubenon saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Moxson Kernz, who went 1-for-3 with one double. Another was Michael Bernath, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Fox Valley Lutheran.

Drew Magnuson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.

Notre Dame Academy's loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Ashwaubenon, their win bumped their record up to 6-9.

Ashwaubenon might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Notre Dame Academy when the teams last played back in April. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
