Softball Game Preview: St. Brendan Sabres vs. Lourdes Academy

The St. Brendan Sabres will face off against Lourdes Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

St. Brendan took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Somerset Academy (Silver Palms), but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. St. Brendan came out on top in a nail-biter against Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) on Thursday, sneaking past 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Sabres have posted since May 8, 2024.

Jules Miranda spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lourdes Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Marathon 7-5.

Sophia Pierro was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. That hit marked the first that she got this season. Another player making a difference was Jaqueline Perez-Abreu, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

St. Brendan's win bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Lourdes Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. St. Brendan has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Lourdes Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

St. Brendan took their win against Lourdes Academy when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 13-1. Will St. Brendan repeat their success, or does Lourdes Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
