Softball Game Preview: Dyer County Choctaws vs. Obion County Rebels

Dyer County has gone 7-1 against Obion County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Choctaws will head out on the road to challenge the Rebels at 5:00 p.m. Dyer County will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Dyer County had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Crockett County on Wednesday. The Choctaws put the hurt on the Cavaliers with a sharp 9-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Choctaws, who have now won ten contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Rylee Key was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Katie Caldwell and Emma Wray did most of the damage at the plate: Caldwell scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Wray went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most runs Caldwell has posted over her last six matchups. Kennedy Hill also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Meanwhile, Obion County came up short against South Gibson on Wednesday, falling 8-2. The Rebels haven't had much luck with the Hornets recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Dyer County is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Obion County, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.

Dyer County took their victory against Obion County in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 11-0 score. Do the Choctaws have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rebels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
