Football Game Preview: Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs vs. Paxton Tigers

The Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Paxton Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sumner-Eddyville-Miller will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.

Sumner-Eddyville-Miller is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past Wauneta-Palisade to the tune of 63-33 on Friday. With the Mustangs ahead 47-25 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Jordan Scoville produced another solid performance rushing for 291 yards and six touchdowns on only 15 carries, while also picking up 45 receiving yards and one TD. Those 291 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Chance Daake was another key player, throwing for 119 yards and a pair of TDs on only six passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sumner-Eddyville-Miller was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 317 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Paxton took on Wallace on Friday. The Tigers took a hard 44-25 fall against the Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 104th, while the Wildcats are ranked 31st).

Sumner-Eddyville-Miller will have to contain Maddex Mcconnell as he made an impact in Paxton's last game. He picked up 142 receiving yards, and also punched in one rushing score.

Paxton's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

Sumner-Eddyville-Miller took their win against Paxton in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 44-21 score. In that matchup, the Mustangs amassed a halftime lead of 44-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
