Basketball Recap: Machai Alston Key Part of a Team Effort in Wolves Win

Ygnacio Valley lost to Berkeley back in November of 2015, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Ygnacio Valley Wolves enjoyed a cozy 72-56 win over the Berkeley Yellowjackets. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 454th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ygnacio Valley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Machai Alston, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 18 points. Those 18 points gave Alston a new career-high. Antonio Kellogg Jr was another key player, going 6 of 12 en route to 19 points and six boards.

The win made it two in a row for Ygnacio Valley and bumps their season record up to 11-8. As for Berkeley, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.

Ygnacio Valley will face off against Elk Grove at 11:30 a.m. on Monday. Elk Grove is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.1 points per game this season. As for Berkeley, they will square off against Castro Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Castro Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Berkeley likes a good challenge.
