Baseball Game Preview: Rio Hondo Prep Kares vs. Polytechnic Panthers

For the second straight game, Rio Hondo Prep will face off against Polytechnic. The Kares will host the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

On Tuesday, Rio Hondo Prep didn't have quite enough to beat Polytechnic and fell 9-8.

For Polytechnic's part, Alejandro KohnRabassa made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. KohnRabassa also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Polytechnic is 5-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-10 otherwise. KohnRabassa was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Polytechnic let Alex Chui and Luke Phillips run wild. Chui went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Phillips went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Phillips a new career-high.

Polytechnic pushed their record up to 10-12 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Rio Hondo Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7-1.
